I had the most wonderful massage that was given to me by Meghan Hoch, MT. I was experiencing a lot of muscle tension in my back due to a few full days of painting. Even after 2 adjustments by a chiropractor and my daily stretching, my muscles were still very tight.

Meghan is a very personable professional and made me feel at ease. She treated me with warmth, caring, and kindness. She was very attentive to my needs and focused on my areas of concern. She made sure to adjust the strength of the massage and applied the perfect amount of pressure to suit my liking.

Meghan offers a variety of services and gift certificates are available.

I highly recommend Meghan Hoch, Massage Therapist!

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. People new to massage frequently want Swedish massage. It is a common massage done in spas and often lays the groundwork for other types of massage, so people who aren't sure whether they want a massage or not will often choose Swedish massage. Once they are familiar with massage and know that they are ok with that particular body therapy, they will often request a deeper Swedish or a Medical massage, which involves deeper techniques, stretching, myofascial techniques, and friction techniques, among other things.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Because of my unique interests and background, I am able to offer massage for clients with special needs. I have not found many other massage therapists who offer this, and I have not found any in my area.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Giving massage helps me just as much as it helps my client. When I give a massage, I find I am happier and more relaxed for the rest of the day. It is my therapy, just as receiving massage is therapeutic to you.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. The most common question is, "what does massage do besides make me feel good?"

I tell them the primary benefit of massage is a relaxation of the muscles through manual manipulation, but other physical benefits of massage include improved circulatory, respiratory, and digestive function, reduced blood pressure, a stronger immune system, and a reduction in pain and tension throughout the joints. Massage also helps to improve a person's sense of well-being and to reduce feelings of stress or anxiety.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. When I was in college, I took a non-credit massage class. I found I was really drawn to the idea of massage, and continued taking non-credit classes and practicing on my friends. Finally, I decided just to go to school for it, and enrolled in a massage school. It was an excellent decision, in my opinion.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Yes, every massage therapist in New Jersey must take continuing education courses in order to maintain certification. However, I do not view it as something I am made to do, because I enjoy learning new things about my trade. My current CE course is one on pediatric massage.
