Introduction: The most common request from first time clients is for the equivalent of a "PC Tuneup" or "Virus Removal." These services are offered by many techs and, in our opinion, are rarely in your best interest. Techs disagree with us on the topic of virus removal.  While there are many solutions online which describe how to remove any specific infection, they never seem to address that viruses are rarely found alone.  Once one infects a system, I believe the only way to be certain the infection is gone is to: • Back up your data • Format your drive • Reinstall windows from a known good source • Reinstall apps • Restore your data Most techs will happily charge a hundred bucks and remove the single infection you’re aware of.  In our experience, that usually means the system will be re-infected again within a few months, due largely to the modifications most infections make to system files and settings within windows.  That said, I’ll happily remove only the infections which present themselves. It just might work if we caught it soon enough.   As far as cost, barring any physical damage to the hard drive itself, the cost of the data migration will depend upon three distinct variables: • The amount of data we need to transfer • The fragmentation of that data on the drive • The speed of the computer we’re moving the data on to.
