Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. Plumbing repairs, painting, tile/wood flooring, roofing.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. To do your research first before going out and making a decision, you do not always need to call the company with the big fancy advertising in the phone book, as most of the time they are set on making money, while the job may be done well, they just want your money, and there is no room to work. On the other side of the spectrum, if you are in a financial bind as far as not being able to afford someone, do not just go with the cheapest as it almost always leaves a bad taste in your mouth. We here are neither one or the other on the spectrum, we are the happy medium to your solution, talk to us, and we will take care of you.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. The right tools to have. The basics of plumbing or carpentry or what have you. To be able so save money, however it does take time to learn and perfect.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Try to have all the basic information possible, for example: I need my den painted and its 14x12, and I would like to have it in pacific blue and all the windows and trim I would like lime green. This makes it easier for us to think on our feet per say, when looking into your home repair/remodel. We have a better sense of time to tell what it will take, and how much it will cost.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. We set our standards of quality back to the old days, where people took a little longer to do a job to make sure that everything was looked over, leading us to have the best possible quality available to you.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. The fact that we get to meet so many new people and be able to help them out, whether its a lower price, the best job done, the best customer care, or even the best service ever. Just being able to help someone out in some little way and see them smile and feel relieved, that is enough for us.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. Q. How long have you been in business? A. 6 years for ourselves, we have a combined total knowledge and experience of the field for over 20 years now.
Q. Why are your prices much lower than everyone else's?
A. We want to make sure that everyone is able to have a comfortable budget within reason, so that even if they are taking out a loan, that its not to much for them to have to payback, and we realize that money isn't always easy to save up or come across. We make enough to provide for ourselves, and that is it really, it is more about you, and making sure you are happy
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. Just an example, I had a lady who needed a shower valve and fixture replaced, knowing that the plumbers in the area charge anywhere from $80 to $110 an hour, (which is devastating to hear for most people) I told her I would do it for $40 an hour, and have it done with in one day or less, to make sure she could afford having it done, and have her shower back and working properly in one day. She was ecstatic over the answer the next day 6 hours later her shower was ready to go, and she was happy. She even gave us a $100 tip for a job well done, and for the service provided.
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. We just want customers to know that we pride ourselves in everything we do, and will do the best to reasonably accommodate our clients needs.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. I started when I was 5 years old working for my father, he had made sure all my homework was always done before I left class, so that I could go right to work. As I got older, the better I became of course, and decided to move out of state, found a partner and started my own handyman business, among several other business that we now own as well.
Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.
A. We had a lady who needed a shower valve and fixture replaced, knowing that the plumbers in the area charge anywhere from $80 to $110 an hour, (which is devastating to hear for most people) I told her I would do it for $40 an hour, and have it done with in one day or less, to make sure she could afford having it done, and have her shower back and working properly in one day. She was ecstatic over the answer the next day 6 hours later her shower was ready to go, and she was happy. She even gave us a $100 tip for a job well done, and for the service provided.
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. Always, we take courses at our local community college to be able to keep up with the new codes, and do a fair bit of research on new products that may help us help our clients.
Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?
A. We will be having a few websites coming soon, and possibly an out of state expansion as well. We will keep you updated as we go along.
Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.
A. Again, the latest project was a faulty shower valve that had many issues, and it took 6 hours to complete. The customer was billed for $240 ($40 an hour). There were many steps involved with trying to pry off rusted handles, finding out if was the stem of the valve, the seat, or packing, we just ended replacing the whole valve instead to save our client time and money. She had also already purchased a new shower valve and trim for herself. Normally we pull this ourselves as we know what is going to be the best for our clients.
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. Not at all, our pricing is fairly simple, if its quick and easy, it is $30 an hour. If it is lengthy and hard it is $45 an hour.
Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
A. Take the proper schooling, or apprenticeship needed, keep honing up on your skills and the way the trade market is fluxuating. Go out and work for someone for at least five years and obtain a journeyman's license. Then do some more research, and marketing, then just do exceptional work, with exceptional service.
