I offer small classes or tutoring in black and white darkroom processing and printing. I use the tray method.
The student will learn all phases of the art form from using the right film and paper, to learning to make archival prints. The student only needs a film camera and a roll of black and white film to get started.

As a student new to the darkroom experience I took a small class with Steve about five years ago and was hooked! He was an excellent instructor who didn't dominate the session but insisted I worked hands-on from the beginning. Truly I could not have expected a more insiteful creative experience. What I especially loved about the workshop was how comfortable the space was and Steve's patience in my questions- ...again..and again...and again. Horrible mistakes (like turning on the light when the paper wasn't properly put away) were taken light hearted and I was able to move past my anxiousness of being new to this process and fully relax into learning the art. Steve is very much a proponent of community membership and truly supports each individual artist. He encourages everyone who has a passion and love for shooting film to print and "publish" within the studios Black and White Club. Steve's humor and love for printing make this an outstanding studio selection for both the novice and professional of all ages. Five stars!

I have been going to Central Photographic for ten years now! Steve is a wonderful instructor and mentor. His darkroom tutoring is great for photographers of all levels, and he will offer you tips on how to improve your image(s) during the learning process. I highly recommend Steve at Central Photographic! After one session, you will understand why film lovers are hesitant to start shooting digital.

Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. I am teaching the old time darkroom process which is now an artistic process. I am one of the last persons teaching this. It is a good way to really learn to see with a camera before getting into digital photography. For those who do not want to sit in front of a computer to do art work this is the place for you.
