Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. The best piece of advice I have for customers looking to hire a provider like me is CHECK REFERENCES! Most of our business is by word of mouth and nothing holds up better than previous happy customers. While licensing and insurance is important and is a must (don't hire a "professional" who isn't licensed and insured), all the paperwork in the world doesn't make a good dog trainer. A trainer who is dedicated, experienced, and who stays in the loop with ever changing techniques is your best bet.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. If I were one of my customers, I would want to know how the people who work for my company were chosen and what qualifications they have. The only inside secret we have is that we don't stop training until the client has what they're looking for.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Since dogs are as indivudual as people information about their personalities is invaulable. Age, weight, breed, and sex are all important, but at American Canine Training, we don't "breed typify" which means we don't say that all German Shepherd Dogs bite, or that all labs are wild and so on. We evauluate each dog as the unique creature he or she is. Tell us if your dog is hyper, calm, friendly, stand offish etc.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. We strive to provide result based training which means we will find a way to solve your dogs problems and to communicate what ever you want him to know! We provide one on one, in depth training, and we follow up on all our work until our clients are completely satisfied. We never say that we'll only use one particular method of training as we understand that every dog is as individual as its person.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. My favorite thing about my job is watching people and their dogs connect through communication. When the light goes on and the stress levels come down because both dog and person are hearing each other I really feel like I've done my job!
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. The most commonly asked questions have to do with doggie manners. People are actually less intersted in teaching their dogs tons of commands and more interested in creating a loving and harmonious bond based on the dog not committing infractions like chewing, jumping, barking, and soiling in the house. When they ask me about solving these problems we let them know that these issues are so much more easily corrected than they realize and then send them on the path to enlightenment.
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. Absolutely! My favorite story involves the rehabilitation of a small black furball who came to us so terrified it took days before we could even touch her! We took our time, used a leash to gain her trust and confidence and eventually ended up with a happy, fairly well adjusted new member of the pack!
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. The one thing we want our customers to know about is is that we strive to provide the best all around care for their dogs that is possible. We don't stop until we find a solution to their problems if they have a problem, and we just love what we do!
