Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Our most common types of jobs are Wedding Receptions. Probably because it really requires the use of a banquet hall to pull off the beautiful day that brides envision.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Make sure that there are no hidden fees and costs! If you are not sure if something is included be sure to ask.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I am not sure about other banquet facilities but I can tell you that we are very picky about our food. We order fresh and prepare to perfection. Our kitchen is a grade A and we are very proud of that. We are very observant of the cleanliness of our kitchen and very proud that our staff constantly washes their hands. It may not seem important to others but we believe it's very very important!

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Know what date to have your event that won't create problems later. For instance, not a good idea to book a wedding on SuperBowl Sunday! Also, if you are looking to get the best deals book a Sunday-Thursday instead of a Friday or Saturday.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I think our work stands out from others because of our devotion to our clients. We listen to their likes and dislikes and we create surprises for them at their reception. We place tables where they would like to have them, let them make all the choices and colors. We even allow them to bring in items and we will place them where they want them. We really enjoy making everyone happy so that as they leave we enjoy getting hugs from our clients!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. The most common question is can they also bring in their own centerpieces or their own gifts on the tables and of course they can!

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. Our favorite story was when the bride was booking our facility she had her parents with her. When she was deciding on the cake flavors her father didn't say anything. I asked him what he was thinking and he said... 'I don't like cake, I like pumpkin pie' and of course we all laughed. But I made a note about that and during the reception after the bride and groom cut their cake we brought out a couple of pumpkin pies and a can of whipping cream and put it on his table. I am sure he will never forget that!

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I wish they really knew what it takes to prepare for their event. It takes days of planning and making sure everything is ordered from the linens, food, cake, DJ, music choices, seating arrangements, bathrooms fully stocked etc. And then the clean up! If there is a party of 100 that means several hundred glasses to clean, a couple hundred plates and linens to get cleaned. Those are all the "behind the scenes" that people don't realize.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Since we owned Shaw Productions videography and photography and had been to so many venues we always dreamed of owning our own banquet facility. The two businesses actually work very well together too!

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. If you are thinking about getting into the business of banquets and events be sure you have a passion for designing and creating. This is what makes this profession so much fun. Making people happy and creating the atmosphere they desire.
