FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate of KPA Professional Dog Training Academy (A Graduate Program in Animal Training and Behavior).
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I was hired to stay for many daytime hours for a dog who is undergoing cancer testing and had some surgery. I don't typically do this; I keep my dog training separate from my pet sitting. But I couldn't resist. Had to keep her calm after surgery - no crazy antics, so I tired her brain out with some training exercises that kept her mind very busy and body under control. Taught her some hand targeting, to sit and down on cue. The pet parents may not even know it. But that's okay. I do!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Dog Trainer: Ask for their certification. Anyone can 'say' they are a dog trainer, but what are their credentials and training methods. I recommend a force-free, positive reinforcement method of training. I'm not wishy-washy about it. I do not think it is okay to use force or punishment ever!
