Survey findings and summary
Thumbtack.com, in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, has released the new results from the second annual Thumbtack.com Small Business Survey. The 2013 study draws upon data from over 7,000 small business owners nationwide and shows that New York improved its overall grade slightly, rising from a 'D' in 2012 to a 'D+' in this year's study. Although the state struggled overall, it received high marks in several categories.
Some of the key findings for New York include:
- New York earned an 'A-' for the state's small business training and networking programs. However, small business owners were critical of New York's regulatory systems, giving the state a 'D+', although this was an improvement from the 'F' grade received last year.
- Among major cities nationwide, Rochester earned a 'B-' overall. New York City earned a 'C' grade, up from a 'D+' in 2012.
