I am an alumni of the Sorbonne University (Paris IV, France) and have been tutoring French for 4 years in New York. I provide conversational classes, grammar and conjugation lessons, fun ways to practice and learn new vocabulary. I have experience with people of all ages, from kids learning French at school to adults preparing for a travel or learning a new language for professional purposes.

Silvia is an amazing tutor, I can't recommend her enough.
She is extremely friendly and fun to work with, I looked forward to every lesson with her. She was always very prepared in each lesson, equipped with work sheets of the lesson and vocabulary. The homework that she gave was always challenging as she wanted to push you to learn as much as you can, she was very patient with always going through the answers and helping you to find the correct ones. Due to her time and efforts I feel very comfortable and familiar with the french language both in grammar and vocabulary, working with her has excited me to learn more in the language. She goes above and beyond the time that you spend together as she is always sending tutorials that will help you learn and is always open to be called or e-mailed with a question. She is extremely smart and eager to teach, her excitement is contagious. I have learned so much from her and am very grateful.
Merci beaucoup, Silvia!– Sarah

Silvia is by far the best language tutor I've ever had. I'm fluent in several languages and wanted to maintain and improve my French when I contacted her about a year and half ago. In addition to having a great knowledge of grammar and knowing how to teach it, she goes out of her away to make our sessions fun and fresh, often transcribing clips from French TV shows, soap operas, and songs which we watch and dissect together. It's always interesting and comfortably challenging - we always pick the subjects together. As a busy New York professional, it proved difficult for me to commit to a fixed weekly schedule, which I did for a semester at the Alliance Française. Silvia is always on time and very flexible with our scheduling, never pushing for more or less. I would recommend her to anybody who wants to learn French from scratch or maintain and deepen their skills. Our sessions are among my favorite activities and I always look forward to them.

I have been studying with Silvia Lucie for 2 years and I can highly recommend her as a French teacher. She works with you at your level whatever it may be, she's patient, and truly cares about helping you to improve. And you will. If need be, she can teach you from the ground up, including a complete course in French grammar. As for working with you on your conversational French — she's superb. So, if you're interested in learning or improving your French, I strongly suggest you try taking a class with her.

Question and answer
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I have a diploma in English as a foreign language and studied translation and linguistics for many years. I do have a total of 7 years of experience in tutoring foreign languages (before living in NYC I tutored in English as a foreign language to little kids in Paris).
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I love meeting new people, understanding their challenges and adapting my lessons to their needs. Every student is a new adventure and I love it when they make great progress and can start talking with my French connections!
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. They ask for results: they want to learn quick and fast. My answer is: if you are motivated, you will learn. We will work it out together. French is not an easy language but, with regular practice and straightforward explanations, it is not as crazy as it can sometimes seem!
