Lessons with Music Coach Derek Smith

Introduction: I am a dedicated music instructor with a wide range of knowledge and experience. I have been teaching for over a decade, working with students of all ages and skill levels. My philosophy is that the best way to get results is to focus on the enjoyment and immediate experience of playing, allowing for awareness and patience in order to develop a genuine connection to your musical instrument and practice. I do not offer a cookie-cutter approach, I tailor lessons for each student, letting your goals, interests, and strengths provide the direction and pace of progress. I am a firm believer that everyone, regardless of percieved ability, can learn an instrument and have a fulfilling musical life. My primary instrument is guitar, my main focuses being rock (classic, modern, indie) and folk (acoustic/fingerstyle), but also am experienced in blues, jazz, and classical. My secondary instruments are piano, of which I have recieved classical training from a young age, and electric bass, which I have both a jazz and rock background in. I incorporate theory in a practical and straightforward way. I also offer instruction in songwriting and production for those interested, as one of my favorite aspects of teaching is helping people to express themselves creatively.
