I had never even heard of a birth photographer until I started working as a doula and met a photographer who specialized in births. She had some lovely work, but I wasn't sure if it was something that I would want for myself. Then I went to a birth a doula and the couple had hired a birth photographer. I was able to watch her work and noticed that, I actually didn't notice her that much. She stayed in the background and just took pictures as things unfolded. With my recent birth, I was so busy planning a home birth that I didn't really think about hiring a birth photographer initially, but now I am so glad that I had Mariah there. Mariah's Business is Afterglow Exposures www.afterglowexposures.com Just like hiring a wedding photographer, we met with her before the birth and discussed what type of pictures we wanted and things that we didn't want. We discussed our plan for the birth, the where and and who would be there etc. When labor started, I let my midwife know and I let my photographer know as well. I was a little nervous about having someone just watching me while I was in labor, and not just watching me, but watching me with a camera! Everything just worked out so well though. Mariah came when I was far enough along into labor that I was working hard, and I was concentrating on each contraction so much that I didn't even notice her in the room. I didn't feel stared at or watched. Mariah was able to capture some photos that I will always treasure. We have photos of of son's very first breaths, and our first look at him. You can see us falling in love with him in these pictures. I would highly recommend to anyone to consider hiring a birth photographer, it is well worth the investment to remember this special day.

Event and portrait photography- Births, Weddings are our specialty but we also shoot newborn, child, family, engagement, maternity, pets and Equine.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Sometimes you don't know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory!! Don't sacrifice quality portraits for a cheaper price, you do get what you pay for!! We are continuing our education and always learning new techniques to make your portraits priceless.
