Introduction: Our firm is small yet we provide full service interior design to our clients from concept to completion. Drawings, sourcing and all client contact is taken care of by our team of highly creative and qualified professionals. We are all passionate about design and scrupulous when it comes to detail. There is a very personal touch to our working relationships and our clients' satisfaction is our ultimate goal. We get a great deal of joy in changing peoples' lives through design. Creating beautiful spaces is terrific but our goal is to first give our clients everything they need in a space--function and then follow that with form--the aesthetics--what they want, wish for and desire.

"Working with Phyllis Harbinger and her DCI Team has been a fabulous adventure. We had been living in our condo for 10 years and felt it was time to upgrade the sad- looking bathrooms that our builder had provided us with. We also decided, now that we were empty-nesters, to convert two unused bedrooms into “special” rooms- a den for my husband and a yoga/meditation room for me. Finally we planned to convert our home office into a family room for our grandson. After reviewing Phyllis’s online portfolio, I knew that she had incredible taste and vision, but only after meeting her did I realize how much fun working with her would be! I had tons of decorating ideas, but no clue how to implement them. I had spent several frustrating afternoons visiting bathroom stores, but was left feeling overwhelmed. At the start of the project, Phyllis assured me that the bathrooms that I would ultimately have would be more spectacular than those in most 5 star hotels! She was so right! I was amazed at Phyllis’s intuitive ability to quickly understand what our goals were as well as interpret our personal style. Shopping was a whirlwind event. I still cannot believe how in just one day the tile and fixtures, for 4 fabulous bathrooms, were chosen!! Other shopping days were spent running from amazing lighting stores, to choosing our marble, and then ending the day ordering carpets. There was no detail too small for Phyllis to deal with quickly and with outstanding results! Once construction begun, it was potentially a very stressful time. However, Phyllis was available to meet with the contractor, review all major deliveries and efficiently deal with any problems! There were some glitches that were resolved before we were even made aware that there had been a problem! I would highly recommend Phyllis and her amazing DCI Team! We now have the most gorgeous home and our bathrooms are definitely more stunning than at ALL the 5-star hotels that we have since stayed at!

I worked with Phyllis Harbinger on a large project for my home. Phyllis is kind, prompt and considerate. She understands your needs, budget and keeps you on the straight and narrow when you like something that could be totally wrong in your home. We gutted a large three bedroom apartment. New doors, floors, crown and floor moldings, custom cabinetry, plumbing, electrical, the works. Phyllis is a joy to work with. Not only talented and smart but considerate and cordial. You should be so lucky to engage her services for your design project.

Phyllis worked with my husband and me on designing a living room and dining room area in our new apartment at the Ritz-Carlton Residences in White Plains, NY. Phyllis was not only extremely competent and knowledgeable, but very creative as well as very reliable and personable. We had interviewed three other potential interior decorators/designers for this project, and Phyllis was far and away the most impressive of that group. Her excellent work confirmed our confidence in her and we would highly recommend her to others who, like ourselves, demand highly professional and dedicated client service.

We had a catastrophic flooding of our NYC apartment that required us to start from scratch. We had worked with another decorator before the flooding, but we never felt 'at home' in the design that he did. Phyllis and her team worked closely with us to create a space that was ours--not our decorator's. I can't remember what the place was like before the flood! After working with Design Concepts, I have a home, not just a fancy house.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I use a value based design fee which includes conceptual, drawings, scope of work, budgeting, etc. This is a fixed fee. We then charge a percentage of the net cost for purchase management and procurement of products and services for our clients.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly taking CEU classes to learn about new Codes affecting our industry and new products to share with my clients. In fact, I am attending another CEU next week given by Lutron to learn about new trends in lighting controls.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was living in an NYC apartment that we had modestly renovated. It sold for more than the sponsors' completely renovated models in our line and had great light and a tree line view. The southern exposure was happy and I enjoyed designing the space. This is when I got the bug and went to school to study and become a Design Professional. I have never looked back. This was my calling and I have been designing for the last 20 years! Studying at FIT in New York was a dream come true. I learned how to speak in the language of design!
