A. Massage, facials, reflexology, pregnancy massage, swedish, deep tissue, medical (sometimes) and a wet treatment. Wet treatments may vary and help detoxify the body. Ex: Seaweed, clay, salt scrubs, aromatherapy scrubs are just some of the treatments I have done.
A. Do your research and always go with a Licensed Therapist. There are a lot of phonies out there just taking peoples' money and who give our profession a bad name.
A. I want them to know & realize that it is important to find a LICENSED Therapist in any service or services they are seeking. Someone who is not properly trained can injure someone or make their problem worse. Always be an informed consumer and do your research with that thought in the back of your mind.
Michael Caputo, LMT
A. A client with a particular health issue should know if getting the massage is contraindicated. If it is they would need their doctor's approval or a note from him saying and giving me the therapist the go-ahead.
A. I am Dual Licensed (Massage & Skincare) and have over a decade of experience at a Five-Star Hotel Spa in Midtown Manhattan.
I also have worked on over 10,000 satisfied clients who have had a wide range of issues that I was able to make a difference for them.
A. I like the idea that I am my own boss. I use my training from the Swedish Institute, NYC to heal the body, pamper the client, with always the main objective or bottom line of making them feel good. The magic of touch is one of the most important things in life. And I am confident that massage therapists will never be replaced by machines or advanced technology. Nothing will ever be able to replace the human touch!
A. I'm often asked how I got into this line of work. I tell my clients that I love my work and enjoy helping people. I consider myself a healer and it's wonderful what the power of touch can do. My goal is to bring my client to a place of well-being.... emotionally, physically, and mentally as well. This is my agenda and has added to my life multi fold.
A. I try to keep the number of stories I share with people to a minimum. I treat everyone and their business with the utmost privacy. What a client reveals to me about their health, past or present, I never share with anyone. We were taught that "ethic" in school and I have never forgotton that one. I have a lot of memories & compliments from hundreds of clients who have made my work so rewarding.
A. That no 2 days or clients are ever exactly alike. Their needs are always different. That you can really make a difference to people through your work and touch. You can make a decent living at this and work in beautiful places and elegant Hotel-Spas like myself. That probably by the time you retire you can write a book.
A. That happened by accident. i spent my entire life working out in gyms in my neighborhood. i was always concerned with health, fitness, and general well-being. one day i decided to get a massage at the gym I was a member of and the rest is history. I couldn't believe how wonderful I felt and ironically my therapist was a teacher at the Swedish Institute where i got my License.
A. I had massage someone who was extremely overweight. He was embarrassed to come for the massage and I told him I wasn't judgemental and that massage would be very beneficial to his health and the condition called, "edema" that he had. I was able to help him and he left my studio feeling like a new man in a better frame of mind than when he walked into my place.
A. We can always go back to the Swedish Institute for that. In fact in a year it will be mandatory for every Licensed Therapist in NYS. That is even more the reason a person seeking Health related services should only go with a Licensed Professional like I had originally stated.
A. There are many wonderful things going on it's hard to keep up sometimes. Then there are always continuing education courses that give you abreast of new developments. the one change that i do not like that has happened over the years is that Massage has become somewhat "cooperate" or "assembly line" mentality. And also some places are trying to "CLONE" their therapists which is a very big mistake.
A. Keep your own body healthy. Know your limits. Be strong and get your License. Then go out there and pay your dues and learn your craft. Then try free-lancing and work for yourself. It's the only way to go in this line of work because when you work for someone they will try to make you do 5-7 massages per shift. This will eventually burn you out and make you hate this line of work. It's an injustice to the client & the Licensed professional.
