FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, I frequently attend seminars regarding dog behavior.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I discovered dog training one day while watching a program on Animal Planet about an assistance dog that was being trained to work with a man who was hearing-impaired. I was so impressed with this dog and what they had trained him to do that I decided to go to school to learn how to train dogs.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
At our center, we board a dog named Ivan. I stayed in the outdoor run with Ivan and watched his dad drive away. As soon as his dad was out of sight, Ivan turned and attacked me, growling and lunging at me. I was able to to calm him down, but once I put him in the cage, he got worse. During Ivan's stay, we did everything to keep him calm and exercised. A few days after Ivan went home, his mom called to thank me for caring for him. She says it was the first time she had put Ivan in boarding where he didn't return home acting like a "feral" dog.
