Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Get references, see pictures of their work, and meet with the service provider in person to discuss details of the project before committing to anything.

Be sure to get prices or estimates from the service provider and find out what the service entails.

Ask if the contractor will be providing the work himself or will be he subcontracting to another party? If additional crew members are needed to complete the work, will you be on site to supervise?

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. If you have a scratch on a hardwood floor, before replacing the actual piece of wood, apply a liberal amount of olive oil to the scratch and let in soak in, and it will turn the scratch the same color as the existing wood.

When installing kitchen cabinets, always start in a corner and work outward, and always install the overhead cabinets first.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Do you give free estimates? What timeframe does the project require? Are you licensed and insured? How long have you been doing this type of work? Do you have references? Do you have pictures of your work? What forms of payment do you accept? Will you be doing the work yourself or be on site to supervise any additional crew needed to complete the project?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Customers should consider their budget, timeframe, and the scope of the project before contacting and service professional. They should have a clear idea of their desired results to get the most benefit from my consultation. Buyers should also be aware of any local laws and restrictions with regard to construction and maintenance of their property.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I think its my client service that stands out as much as my work for the reason that i believe in
"doing the job right, not twice". If i finish a job and something is not right or the customer is not happy, i will go back on my own time and make it right or until the customer is happy. My main goal is customer satifation.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I get the most satisfaction from 'turning nothing into something beautiful.' For example, taking a piece of wood and turning it into a table, as seen in my portfolio pictures.

My goal is to make the customer happy with the finished product, and I never leave a job until the client is satisfied with my work.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. My favorite stories are when I'm hired to become "Mike Holmes" and fix work from a previous contractor that was done poorly or with shoddy craftsmanship. Unethical contractors will cut corners and rush the job to increase their profit at the expense of the client. My priority is to do the job correctly the first time, using quality materials while honoring the client's budget and desired timeframe.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I decided to get into this business because i have always been good with my hands. I started with my picking up little small jobs on the side to make some extra $. In the area in which i live, theres a large number of people who need little jobs done around their homes. I wasn't expecting it to move into remodeling, but it did, then landscaping and hauling. ,snow plowing
