Breath of fresh air Jeff Malloy is. I was very nervous to use him because I just found him on the net and called him based on reviews, he wasn't recommended by a friend who had experience with him. From the moment I called, I got good vibes. He was personable and sounded like he knew what he was talking about. We are first time buyers and this is the second home we've had inspected. We had used Heimer prior and while we didn't hate them, we didn't feel like they were thorough and I didn't want to use them again. Mr.Malloy walked us through everything and explained what he was doing. He took pictures and provided us with our report within 24hrs. The report was clear and concise, no technical terms that we can't understand like what Heimer did in their almost 100 page report. A wonderful man who knows what he is doing, engages his customers, takes his time to explain everything. Highly recommended.

I am retired and previously involved in home construction. I used Jeff to do my home inspection to get an objective perspective on a home that I hoped to purchase. I must say that I was impressed by his unique knowledge and ability to recognize actual and potential problems which I overlooked. I have recommended him to others and I do not hesitate to recommend again.

Jeff is meticulous, thorough, smart, and knows houses. Most importantly, he is able to communicate "technical" matters in a way that even a lay person like me can understand. I recommend him enthusiastically and without reservations!

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. As expected our most common type of job is an inspection of a single family home in the range of about 1,800 sq ft.

My smallest was a "home" of 592 sq ft and my largest was about 16,000 sq ft! My oldest was from about 1794!

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Do some research on the web. Seek out other client's experience with me.

Search the business name and the inspectors name. Read reviews and ratings from different sites.

ASK questions! Don't believe that a person is good at one thing just because they have a professional standing at something else. I have seen some of the worst home inspections performed by Architects and Engineers!

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I wish that Clients knew when they were really getting a good inspection. Very often Inspectors "seem" to know what they are doing and Client's are impressed only to find out later that the Inspector missed a big problem that they should have reported.

I also wish that Client's understood better on what an Inspector is required to do and not required to do.

I once had a Client who thought I would FILL and Test and indoor swimming pool!

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We provide the most detailed and photo intensive reports available. This reduces arguments and improves your negotiating position!

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Meeting new people and having an adventure everyday. It also gives us the opportunity to visit some incredible homes!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. They always ask me if I would buy the house. I can't really answer that question... most of the time I could not afford it! LOL

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. How dedicated we are to our customers and that we have worked very hard to earn our reputation and great customer reviews.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. All Inspectors are required to have at least 24 hours every two years...I average about 3 times that requirement!

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. Since we are in the inspection business our projects normally only take a day. We did a large home recently (16,000 Sq.Ft.) that took my partner and I two days, but that is unusual. We are awaiting for a go ahead on a magnificent home of over 20,000 Sq.Ft! We also recently inspected the home voted most beautiful in Westchester for 2010!

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. The biggest factor in our pricing schedule is the size of the home. Age and complexity will sometimes also play a small role. The average cost is about $500-$550.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Pay attention to DETAILS. They always tell you the real story.

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. My love of learning new things and using new technology to better serve my clients. For example - we include infrared thermal imaging in all of our inspections. This allows us to see things invisible to the naked eye. I cant tell you how many times we have found water leaks that have been covered over with fresh paint!
