Introduction: I am a NY state licensed acupuncturist, a nationally board certified herbalist and a NCCAOM Diplomate of Chinese Medicine. I am trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) but also practice classical acupuncture from Chinese, Japanese and Korean traditions. I also specialize in East Asian dietary therapy, Korean osteopathic medicine (Kyojung therapy), and I am certified in medical qigong.
I treat a diverse group of issues related to:
* chronic disease
* cancer support care and cancer survivor care
* fertility issues
* pain syndromes
* digestive health
* spiritual and emotional disharmonies
In addition, I have a 20-year peer counseling background and am very good at coaching people in developing wholistic health strategies, particularly around chronic health challenges. I first came to East Asian medicine as a patient, so I have empathy for those who are searching for additional options for health care in addition to western medicine. I'm also a classically trained musician and a long-time community activist. I have always found passion in finding creative and artistic solutions to difficult challenges, using disciplined approach. I also value human relationships as a keystone to any healing process, so I prioritize taking time to listen and fully understanding the medical history and current health challenges of my patients.

While my fee schedule is consistent with NYC practitioners of my background and experience level, my commitment is to treat the people. I never turn anyone away for financial reasons. If you cannot currently afford my rates, just speak to me. My desire is to support your health and wellness.

I've been going to Michael Ishii at Stonewell Acupuncture since November of 2011. I was referred to him by my previous acupuncturist who was moving out of the country. Overall, I've had a great experience working with Michael. I have several health issues that he attends to. My overall health has improved drastically since working with him. In the past, I've gone to many doctors and no one has told me specifically what were the causes to my allergies, breathing problems, acne and other issues I had. I was given medication but no answers. Michael tells me what my health concerns are and he also tells me how he will fix it. For the first time in 10 years I feel confident in a healthcare professional.

I have been using acupuncture for several years and began seeing Michael Ishii as a patient a few years ago when my acupuncturist moved away. Having seen many acupuncturists, I can say he is perhaps the best I've seen. I have seen significant changes in my chronic patterns since beginning to see him regularly. These are things I never thought I would be able to change.
I have referred several people to him. Some of them were completely new to acupuncture. My co-worker called him a "miracle worker" for her back pain. And they all have reported back to me with high praise for his work in a myriad of areas.
He has excellent bedside manner and I've found him incredibly flexible and caring.

I've been working with Michael for a number of years now after migrating from his mentor, Steve. A recommendation from a friend (still a patient with Michael) led me to Steve and then in turn Michael to seek treatment for IBS. Without a doubt, it has been the best decision I've made for myself with regard to my health and I continue to work with him infrequently to keep my prior issues at bay. While I can't promise you that what has worked for me will work for you, if you are reading this and have IBS, then I would encourage you to give Michael a try. On the other hand, if you have a different issue(s) and are considering Michael, I would recommend him as a practitioner of a few of the tools of acupuncture (I don't know if he does cupping for instance). He is a great listener, very conscientious and thorough. Again, this has been the best decision for me for my health.

I met Mike Ishii more than 2 years ago after winning a session through a silent charity auction. That first session Mike was great; warm, funny and very thorough. I felt wonderful after the session & would have continued treatment, but I was laid off from my job shortly after and needed to cut back expenses. I decided to try acupuncture again after my husband & I had been trying to conceive for two years. We started visiting reproductive endocrinologists & I was put on chlomid for three cycles and we had i.u.i. for two cycles. I felt like I needed a break from the drugs and the pressure and turned to acupuncture. Mike was my first choice because I had great memories from our first session. Again, Mike was awesome. In addition to acupuncture, he helped me adjust my diet and gave me herbs to first help build up my chi so that my body would then feel strong enough to support a child. After two months of acupuncture I went back to the reproductive endocrinologist to try i.u.i. again. We conceived the next cycle! I'm now 8 weeks away from my due date. Mike has been a great support throughout the pregnancy, providing treatments and dietary advice to keep us both healthy & happy. He even made sure to provide me with another great provider and sought updates on my condition while out of town handling his father's hospice. I strongly recommend Mike, he is awesome!

I have been seeing Mike for treatment for over a year. I love that he treats the whole person by focusing on the mind and body. He's an amazing practitioner. Mike treats me for stress and makes me feel better when a cold is coming on. He has drained my sinuses with needles, relieved neck pain and headaches. Mike keeps me balanced and healthy.He is compassionate and sensitive. I would recommend him to anyone.
