Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Bigger Than Life is a NYC DJ service specializing in weddings, sweet sixteen’s, bar mitzvahs, and all events in New York City, Long Island and Westchester.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. When it comes to entetainment, don't focus on lights, we all have the same set ups and lighting and that alone does not make a great party.

Focus on hiring a DJ with personality and that will cater to your needs.

Entertainment is what will make your event something special that you will remember for years to come.

A great DJ/MC will give you a packed dance floor and not guest sitting at tables staring at lights.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Are we guaranteed the DJ of our choice on the day of our event?
A written contract which names your specific DJ should protect you from unscrupulous operators.

How many years of experience do you have?
Experience brings an awareness of common problems and situations. Be sure your DJ has experience with your type of event. A professional Disc Jockey will become involved with the planning of your special day and will be prepared to handle all announcements and special events on the day of your party.

May we call your references?
References are the most reliable way to verify talent and levels of customer service.

Do you belong to any professional trade associations?
An involved business person shows a willingness to learn, network and share ideas. Belonging to a professional trade association reflects a caring attitude.

Will you allow requests?
Requests should be welcomed. If a song seems inappropriate, a good DJ will explain the reason and ask for or suggest an alternative selection. A professional Disc Jockey is aware that they cannot possibly know everything there is to know about your musical preferences and entertainment needs. They should be willing to listen to your ideas and suggestions. They should make themselves available prior to your party to discuss selections. They should be earnest in accepting the songs you have chosen to be played as well as those you have chosen not to be played. Special requests should never be a problem and your DJ should be willing to play them where they are appropriate.

How early will you be there to set up?
At least 60 minutes should be allowed for set up and sound check. Normally there is no additional charge for this service.

How will you be dressed?
Proper attire reflects a positive image to your guests. Be sure to specify the type of apparel that your Disc Jockey should use. There should be no added fee charged for formal attire.

Are you insured?
Insurance is a part of any legitimate business. Liability and casualty policies protect yourself, your guests and the DJ company you choose. Additionally, some venues are now requiring entertainers to provide proof of liability insurance before they can work at the venue.

Do you use professional gear?
Using professional grade sound equipment helps insure reliable service and a quality presentation. There is a difference between the audio equipment you have at home and the equipment a professional Disc Jockey uses. Professional audio equipment is built to go on the road day in and day out.

Will you provide back up equipment and/or personnel in case of an emergency?
Even professional equipment can fail on occasion, so it is important to know whether your Disc Jockey has spare equipment and personnel available to them (some local ADJA chapters set up emergency networks for this purpose). Any number of circumstances may arise between the time you book your Disc Jockey and the date of the event. Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and special events are often once in a lifetime opportunities. A professional will be prepared with a back-up system and plan. Hiring a reliable Disc Jockey is a very important decision for the success of your function.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love music, I love to make people dance, laugh and enjoy there night. It's the most amazing feeling in the world.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. The MarBecca Method is unique, specific and can help Mobile Wedding DJs and MCs who practice it to become the most sought after by Site Coordinators, appreciated by clients and the most highly compensated wedding DJs in their local markets.
