FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
In the last few years, several friends - including writers - have asked me to help their children with their college essays. Even when the parents are writers and editors, there can be a lot of friction around this, and the parents have wanted an outsider to help the student through the many complexities of drafting essay after essay. I love doing the work, seeing the results, and I have decades of experience working with young people around their writing, so these relationships come easily to me. I hung up a shingle two years ago, and have now worked with dozens of students applying to all kinds of schools - undergrad and graduate schools - and had great results! What an honor it is!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I help clients create and polish college and graduate school application essays for schools around the world. I review applications and suggest modifications to help highlight the students' strongest suits. I help some families fill out the applications and often help students narrow down their school choices, since I've taught writing at so many colleges and universities and have worked with students who end up at schools around the country.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Check out the provider's experience and testimonials. Email and set up an appointment to talk about your needs or your child's. Ask the provider how s/he works with children and situations like yours. Ask for references and go with your instinct.
