Advice for clients looking for an interior designer would be: 1. Take photographs of what you like and show then to the designer, gauge their reactions. 2. Don't try to "underpay" a designer. A good designer will work hard and save you more money than you pay. 3. Make sure you "like" each other as there will be times you do not agree and if you start out liking them there is a good chance of agreeing on a solution!
