Introduction: I am a New York City based event and portrait photographer and graphic designer. After studying film and graphic design in college, my photography career began 6 years ago when I started taking a camera to live local DIY music events. Since then, I have had photos published by The College Music Journal, Vibe Magazine, Hypebeast, Billboard, and others. I love capturing the raw energy of events and the true personality of people. I have a fully equipped home studio in a brownstone in Harlem.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Live music event coverage - I photograph the performers and the crowd. I shoot to capture not only notable moments of performances but the energy of the entire event. If someone who wasn't present at the event sees the photos, I want them to be able to feel the same energy I felt while shooting it. I shoot in the pit, I shoot on the stage, I shoot in the back from the bar. Every angle has a perspective worth capturing. Portrait Photography - For both actor head shots and model portfolios I shoot to capture a persons true personality. Wardrobe, makeup, and positioning are important and constantly the only aspects of portrait photography that are considered. I think working to capture the energy in someones character is equally, if not more, important. In the studio I play the clients favorite music, I keep the environment casual, I welcome friends of the client should they want any present. I want the client to feel as comfortable as possible so that their natural energy is as evident as ever. Commercial/ Promotional Photography - Creation. Unlike portrait and event photography where I strive to capture natural energy, commercial and promotional photography is about creating the energy needed for the brand. Whether that brand is a product being sold or an artists public image, it is different than what is naturally exuded during the shoot. Before a shoot I will immerse myself in an environment familiar to the client. If given the time and opportunity, I'll see a musical artist perform prior to a promotional shoot. Otherwise I will listen to their music on repeat. If shooting a product, I'll use that product as much as possible before a shoot. I believe excessive familiarity with a brand before a shoot is ideal.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Be as organized as possible and share everything. A photographer needs to know more than the time and location of a job if he's going to give 110%. The more a photographer knows about how you think the better they will be at providing you with images you love. A good photographer should have his own stye, but should also want to get inside his clients head. That being said, if after seeing multiple examples of one photographers work of different subjects and there is something about every single shot that makes you feel uneasy, move on to someone else.
