Guitar Player & Teacher

Introduction: I teach students of every age and experience level, and am particularly adept at tailoring the lesson content to the student’s individual goals and learning style. I teach both jazz and popular music styles on guitar, and my lessons balance the technical and musical elements of furthering one’s craft on an instrument. I'm also a practitioner of the Alexander Technique, and incorporate many of its teachings into his own lessons, making sure my students play the guitar in a healthy, comfortable, and efficient way with proper, yet relaxed posture. In addition to teaching guitar, Alex teaches music theory and ear training, both to his own students and as a private tutor through NYU. Alex spent extensive time studying both classical and jazz theory and harmony, and has successfully helped students prepare for music theory AP’s, college placement tests, and other examinations, in addition to working with students who are working on these disciplines simply in order to further their own musicianship. While his instruction in music theory and ear training is firmly rooted in the formalized classical and jazz traditions, he also teaches theory fundamentals to students studying popular music, which is particularly helpful for songwriters.
