I've been taking lessons with Adam for a couple years now, via Skype (which works amazingly well) when he's in NYC - and in person, when he's in LA, where I live.

Adam's an amazing teacher. I have come to him with questions about what he's playing on his solo albums, how he created some of the great guitar parts and solos for Norah Jones and Tracy Chapman songs, how he approaches song writing, basic music theory and a zillion little things, like "what's the difference between 3/4 time and 6/8 time?".

Adam is always able to give me incredibly useful and immediate answers that I think can only come from total mastery of an instrument, and just as importantly, from a great talent for teaching. He's an inspired teacher who gives you his insights, approaches and tools, so that you can immediately use them to do your own work and unlock your own investigations.

Some teachers don't have Adam's mastery and professional experience, and some amazing guitarists aren't willing - or able - to share their secrets. Adam's got all that - and I can't recommend him highly enough.

Adam Levy is not just an incredible musician, but also an extraordinary private instructor. In our lessons Adam gives thoughtful feedback and advice on how to develop solos and comping, betters ones technique and fretboard knowledge, and how to play musically. He does so in a way that leaves me curious and inspired to work on the material we go over in our lessons. He has helped me dig deeper into my I-VI-II-V's and has opened my eyes into how to develop guitar lines among many other things. My lessons with Adam have been exceptional and have taught me how to stay true to the music.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Sample a few different teachers to find one who best suits your needs. The student/teacher relationship is an important one. It's worth your time and energy to find a good match.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. When a student comes to me with a specific guitar question, and I can answer it from my own experience, and I see the "aha!" moment—when the lightbulb glows brightly. That's my favorite part of teaching!

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. I now offer lessons via live video-chat (on Skype or iChat). This enables me to reach students around the world. I live in New York City and have students in Los Angeles, Barcelona, and elsewhere. Five or ten years ago, this would have seemed impossible.
