While studying violin in NZ 1976 my third instrument was guitar. Michael was the prime guitar student who taught and encouraged me to the point that now 35yrs later im still enjoying playing . His humour and knowledge is certainly infectious.
i would reccomend him without hesitation!

It is my great pleasure to recommend Michael Calvert for his dedication, enthusiasm and love for music and the classic guitar. I could not ask for a better instructor.

Michael Calvert is a wonderful teacher: I think his deep knowledge of, and love for, so many aspects of music, especially the guitar, and his clarity, patience and humor make him exceptional.

Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I have many years of experience of teaching music, especially the guitar, to student of all ages and levels. Also, as a professional who also started as a beginner, I have first-hand experience of most of the problems a student encounters.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I enjoy seeing students improving, and making discoveries for themselves.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Do I need to learn to read music?
Not necessarily. It's possible to play popular music without reading it, but, as in mathematics, you can work out more complex problems if you write them down. Also, reading music gives you access to a much greater range of music.
