Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Samples! All photographers have websites these days, and by looking at their galleries you'll see what they consider to be some of their best images. Some of those will be lucky accidents, so look for consistent quality and enough volume to ensure guaranteed results.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Here's a secret: modern digital cameras make it easy for anyone to get well-exposed photos under most conditions. And the photography business is unregulated, so many people are putting up websites and claiming to be pet portrait photographers.
But great photography still requires a keen eye and technical expertise beyond the basics (when everyone has a pencil, we can see who can draw). Capturing a pet's personality requires a special combination of empathy, patience, and skills acquired only through years of dedicated experience.
