Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Editorial Photo Shoots, Closet Renovations, Personal Shopping Requests

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Be specific in your requests. That is the biggest drawback and be open to new designs.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. "How in the world do I form great relationships with showrooms?" and "Where did you find that item?" I get that one a lot.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. The actual day of the event, and body measurements. I need to know what looks good on you!!!!

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I can look at someone without asking for measurements and know what he/she would look good in. I guess after shopping so much for myself. I kind of have it to a science now.

I also love mixing prints & patterns and the unexpected to create a great finishing product. I love color but we should never forget black is always in fashion.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Being able to make the client happy with my personal shopping services inside & out.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Well, answer most of the time is either yes or no.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. A Makeup artist dropped out unexpectedly and someone stepped in and was able to do the job. Another story, a Hair Stylist dropped out and I was able to do wardrobe & hair styling for the shoot.

Unprofessional behavior is my pet peeve by the way.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. Styling is more about chooses what clothes are pretty. You have to think like the customer and choose what works for him/her. Many people simply cannot do what the few of us can.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I've been into fashion since I was 9, just did not know to what capacity until 6 years ago.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I just completed a photo shoot in which I enlisted the photographer, MUA, Hair Stylist and Models. I actually do that all the time. I'm just proud that I can do this.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I constantly go to museums, travel to different parts of the world (when I can) and blogging. Believe it or not you can find the next fashion prodigy on the web.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. New York Fashion Week, but that is always a development.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. I just did a magazine editorial and it involved getting all of the components together: Hair, Makeup, Photographer, Models & Location. We were working on a tight budget, but I was able to pull everything together in a week's time (sometime it can be in a shorter period of time). The pictures you'll be able to see at a magazine stand near you soon.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. My pricing system is pretty simple; whats complicated is people trying to haggle the price down.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Always be a sponge and be aware of the world around you. You never know what you can pull inspiration from and carry a journal to write down your ideas. And start small. I starting styling my friends for photo shoots I'd put together for my blog. Now I style magazine editorials.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Question: What is the greatest advice ever given?
Answer: "Just Do It."
