Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. The advice i have to a client who wants to hire me
is ask alot of questions. The client should ask about my capabilities and what type of equipment i have to make the particular move go well. Also the client should get an idea of what im willing to do, but more importantly what i am not willing to do!

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. If i was a customer i would want to know the different courier and moving companies and about their work ethic. I would want to know about their latest moves and how well they went. I would probably ask them if they have a handtruck and dolly to transport boxes and such.
Do they have a problem moving furniture. Do they have tools in case there need. I would want to know how many van driver courier services are trustworthy!

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Yes the client should know for example that i don't
usually assemble and dissemble furniture, ceiling fans and fixtures. Unless we have the time and they are willing to pay a little extra. But because I'm usually receptive to situations like that things can be worked out .

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. What i most like about my job is the different people i meet. I meet wealthy, middle-class and poor and they can all be interesting. Their occupations are also interesting. Since I'm also a musician some clients are
helpful with information pertaining to the music industry.
Some work with charitable institutions, which i like and find myself being a bit more charitable where they are concerned. Some people have interesting items they want moved and that gives me a better idea and insights
as to how to help people in they're individual moves. I like when a client thanks me for doing a good job and
show that in the way they pay more than originally intended. It's a good feeling.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. My last move so far is my favorite. I did a job fir a woman who said she had X amount of items. She had double the amount. Of what she originally stated. I didn't get upset because she was reassuring and promised to pay me more if i accommodated her. She helped me find the necessary parking spaces to park in order to load and unload which made the move much more easier. Doing this job lead to making other contacts. http://blogs.forbes.com/rickungar/2011/03/09/union-busting-michigan-style/

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I got into this line of work because me and my
cousin are musicians. We had an old van to transport our band and equiptment to different gigs but we needed additional money to buy equipment and things related to the building up of our band so we eventually got a newer van and started a little courier service. My cousin and i both worked for several courier companies and i use to deliver food to restaurants in mid town.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. In my field you don't necessarily need a degree in
the moving of peoples goods. But i worked in catering and the restaurant business for many years. That is a serious hospitality industry and so is dealing with people and moving their possessions. Knowing how to talk to people and reassure them that you are competent and trustworthy is key.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. My most recent project was a nice move here in midtown manhattan. It was with a woman and her daughter who moved from one side of the Big Apple to the other. It was a relative smooth move. But because it was much more than quoted the client paid me double the original fee which was 100. I got 250 for the entire move! Nice!

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Apple Seedys pricing is very simple since we are still a small company. We charge between 25-35 hex double that for 2 man job. We also will do a flare rate if the client can quarantee the job can be finished within the time they quoted. It usually works out!
