FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Continuing education is very important in the pet care field. I am an accredited member of Pet Sitters International, which is an educational organization dedicated to professional pet sitters. They offer yearly conferences, professional certifications and monthly seminars to continue to raise the industry standard. I am also certified in Pet First Aid through the American Red Cross.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved animals. When I was growing up, I had dogs, cats, hamsters, fish, lizards, frogs, turtles and birds. Six years ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to apply my passion for animals to a career as a pet care specialist. Every day, I wake up getting to help pets and their owners. There is no better feeling.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Our most common jobs include weekly dog walking and vacation pet sitting. We provide weekly dog walking to clients who work outside of the home or are at home but need help exercising their pets. In this case, we are usually scheduled to arrive around the same time each day Monday-Friday. This service is especially useful for pets with separation anxiety, puppies, older dogs or dogs that are crated. We provide vacation pet sitting for clients that go on vacation or travel for business. Vacation pet sitting is available for all types of animals- cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, ect. We can visit the pets one to four times a day and/or provide overnight care depending on their individual needs.
