Outstanding! Thank you Mike and Ta Ming! As an actor I'm used to being in front of the camera but still, portraits make me nervous. I've worked with countless photographers where I've felt contrived, "pose-y" and not my authentic self. Those types of sessions are exhausting and uncomfortable and the pictures, though usable, never felt like ME. I'm writing this review because Lotus Studio was the complete opposite. First of all, it doesn't feel like a STUDIO and I mean that in the best way. You don't feel like you're there to pay, get shot, and leave. It feels like home. You feel among friends. Mike and Ta Ming have such a beautiful energy about them. They're so loving and kind and make you feel so comfortable which is so important. Mike tells jokes and has conversations with you during the shoot so that the real you shines through. He really captures your authenticity and Ta Ming makes you feel your most beautiful. You can tell that they really love each other and what they do, and you can't help but become swept up in their joy. I hardly write reviews but as someone who knows how painful and uncomfortable portrait sessions can be, it's so REFRESHING to feel COMFORTABLE and BEAUTIFUL and to have photos that reflect that. Thank you!

Mike Dote has expertise in photography and video, always providing me with tips to upgrade or improve my overall experience as a fellow photographer. We worked on one short film together, and it was his guidance that allowed me to do the best work I could as co-director of photography. He has a happy demeanor and a knack for conversation. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Just as there is no systematic approach to human relationships, there is no set system we employ in order to enumerate a quote. Everything is done on a case by case basis.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We usually do a 15-20 minute consultation, either in person or on the phone. That way, we can sort out the needs of a client, and figure out the best way we can fulfill them, which is usually done with a more formal estimate. Then, we collect a 50% deposit for the job as a retainer.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Mike studied photography at the International Center of Photography and also teaches photography, bringing to the table 7 years of experience. Ta Ming has extensive training on set as well as in Make Up Designatory's makeup program, which is the top makeup school in the country.
