Get voice and piano lessons from an energetic singer!

No matter the age, I will find out about what you are interested in besides music and use that as a hook to help you understand what's going on in our lessons. Although I am tough, I want you to get the most out of your time. I am positive and love to laugh.

As a former teacher, I have taught K to 8th grade music. During that time, I taught 6th- to 8th-grade chorus; my program grew at a rate of 30% annually compared to the band and orchestra who struggled to gain 5%. I attributed this success to my style of teaching which is accessible to everyone.

Besides teaching in public schools, I have also taught members of my own private studio from ages 10 to 60, and worked as an associate director of music for a church in North Carolina. I currently sing at St. Joseph Chapel (St. Peter's) in Battery Park City. Stop by the 7:30PM mass on Sundays to hear my play/sing!

Having just finished my masters from the Manhattan School of Music in opera performance, I am an active opera singer.

Voice and piano lessons occur at my home studio for a competitive rate. I look forward to speaking with you soon!

I'm having one hour (classical) singing lessons with Andrew, on a weekly basis. I had already taken singing lessons in France, so I came with standards and expectations.

To be honest, it was better than what I was expecting ! Andrew is a great teacher : he takes times for his students, pays a lot of attention to every detail, give really good advice. If you add his natural kindness and cheerfulness, you can easily make the conclusion that he is the perfect singing teacher !

I especially appreciate his flexibility in finding individual approch and definitely see how hard he is working on helping you to achieve your goals. Excellent first lesson with Andrew; the first thing I noticed was his emphasis on relaxation and creating an easy environment to work in. He spoke to me about good singing technique such as breathing, and then we went straight to vocalizing with as much of a natural sound and posture as possible. After that, we dove straight into a song to apply such concepts. Will definitely be booking another lesson with Andrew when I have the opportunity!

Andy is an extremely talented singing professional. He continually impressed me with his ability to take complex ideas and distill them into concise strategies for better performance. I highly recommend him as an instructor for all levels. He has improved my singing to a level I did not expect, and I will continue to seek his professional expertise for the remainder of my singing career. I've never met as good a singing teacher as Andy Klima.

I found Andrew through thumbtack and it has been a real pleasure taking lessons from him. He makes you feel very comfortable, and for someone like me with no previous vocal training that it a must. Andrew is very thorough, and takes time to really help you understand the concepts and techniques. I am currently taking lesson from him and I highly recommend you doing the same. I am a broke actor who was wanting to better himself, so money is tight, but Andrew will work with you as best he can. Again, I highly recommend him!

Wow! I am so lucky to have found Andy as my singing coach. He is an outstanding teacher. In a city like Manhattan it is so hard to find someone you can relate to and trust. I don't know what I would have done without Andy. He has been able to help me reach a new level with my singing that otherwise wouldn't have been possible. I am so thankful to him!

Andy is a very insightful and creative voice teacher. He works to bring out the best from you while making the experience challenging and fun. Andy is very good at translating the complex dynamics of singing into everyday terms that an amateur singer can understand - while still providing the structure and professional coaching necessary for you to reach the next level. He is funny, personable and makes you feel very comfortable to try things that may not be in your comfort zone. I have been taking lessons with Andy for about 18 months now and feel that he is the best voice teacher that I have ever had.

On a number of occasions, I've had the opportunity to observe Andrew Klima in an educational setting teaching chorus to elementary and middle school students. Andrew's style of teaching is both innovative and traditional. He makes the students want to sing with his infectious personality and love of his craft, and at the same time has excellent classroom management techniques.
I have seen Andrew work with primary classes performing for their parents at concerts where Andrew has taught them to sing and be animated as well.
His ability to reach across grade levels seems effortless. Andrew was instrumental in re-organizing the chorus at the middle school where he taught. School counselors had students requesting chorus as an elective, and a number of his students began taking private lessons after school!
As a seasoned teacher with 35 years experience, I have seen many young teachers begin their careers. Andrew is exceptional. You will be more than pleased with him as a private voice instructor for any age student.

Question and answer

Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

A. I love Thumbtack! I've recently connected with 4 great students thanks to the site. All of the students have been very high quality and have continued to take lessons with me on a weekly basis. Two of them have even left reviews for you to read. I look forward to teaching you soon!

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Do I want to work hard?

Am I willing to practice weekly to make sure that I'm improving?

What type of music do I like to sing?

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I'm the hardest working, most fun, and creative teacher out there who is truly interested in your success and progress. We will work tirelessly to improve your skill set and make you a better performer.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. It's my belief that artist's are chosen, they don't necessarily pick their profession. When I knew I wanted to be a professional singer, I took extra steps to ensure I was the best musician I can be - like taking piano lessons and voice lessons.

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. My greatest strength is communicating an idea that is hard to conceptualize. Since singing, particularly, is so intangible, I think it's essential for a teach to be able to give their students multiple analogies and comparison tools. I try to find out what inspires a student and use analogies that they are able to easily connect with. In turn, the student is able to make greater strides in their singing and connection with the material.
