Introduction: I have 8 years of experience tutoring organic chemistry, making it accessible to people of all abilities. Don’t be intimidated by all the material you’re expected to learn! You’re probably a lot closer to a breakthrough than you think and just need the right help. I hate seeing people toil away on problems wondering what they’re doing wrong. I want to catalyze the epiphany that gets you through your next homework, quiz, or exam without agonizing. We will work on the problematic topics from different angles until you get the breakthrough you need. Alternatively, you might just want to edge out the competition and get the best scores on exams possible for pre-med track or something similar. A good athlete benefits from a good coach because the coach can save you from wasting time/effort. Whether you’re struggling and need help, or succeeding and want to do better, I hope you will give me a chance to work with you!

I would definitely recommend this brilliant teacher as a tutor. Max Paukner, a master of Organic Chemistry, has the unique ability to impart extensive knowledge and research experience to other scientist as proven by writings and instruction at NYU. Max also has the unique talent of being able to impart complex information to a novice in science. Because I was aware of this, I asked Max to assist me in solving a major scientific plot in a TV Pilot I was writing. My script was a winner in a WGAE competition in 2021, thanks to Max.

I can't emphasize enough how grateful I am to have had Max as my organic chemistry tutor. Max has a knack for breaking down complex concepts into bite-sized pieces, and has a no-judgment patience that helps them settle in. For example, stereochemistry used to baffle me, but Max turned things around in a way that just clicked. There's one session that stands out in my memory. She started by explaining the fundamentals of chirality, R/S notation, and Fischer projections. It got to a point where my eyes were glazing over and Max noticed my confusion. She was explaining enantiomers and diastereomers, and switched her tack for a simple yet effective visual metaphor involving hands. She asked me to hold my hands up in front of me, palms facing each other, with fingers spread out. She pointed out that my hands were mirror images of each other but couldn't be superimposed, just like enantiomers in chemistry. They're identical in composition but can't be perfectly matched up. To drive the point home, Max asked me to imagine twisting one hand slightly, so the fingers didn't align perfectly when trying to overlay them. She explained that this scenario represented diastereomers – molecules that share some similarities but aren't mirror images and can't be superimposed. This hands-on visual metaphor transformed an abstract concept into something tangible and relatable, making it so much easier for me to grasp the difference. Max's approach encouraged me to ask questions without feeling embarrassed about my misunderstandings. Her positivity and belief in my abilities gave me the confidence boost I needed. Thanks to Max, I felt confident going into me stereochemistry exam, but I also developed a genuine appreciation for the subject. I wholeheartedly recommend Max to anyone struggling with organic chemistry. Her ability to make the abstract concrete and her walnut-tree like patience worked for me, and I hope will work for you too!

As much as I enjoy chemistry, it isn't my strong suit. I have had difficulty understanding the molecular drawings and deciphering what each facet represents. Tutoring offered much assistance with getting a better grip on the different types of drawings. Things were laid out much more clearly than I had initially learned them, and after the sessions I felt much more confident with my work.

I struggled with the basics of organic chemistry and felt like I was falling behind in class. I started getting tutored and soon I felt like the pieces fell into place. I was quickly able to learn concepts like cis/trans isomers, IUPAC naming, and reactions. I highly recommend tutoring, especially at the beginning of the semester when you're still learning the fundamentals.

I completely got turned around by Max. I needed some serious help understanding NMR and chromatography reactions. Once Max helped me get that, I started to actually get orgo.
