About
Feel better quickly and efficiently with Damon. I am a licensed marriage family therapist in New York and California. My fifteen years of clinical experience have allowed me to develop comprehensive and effective tools for reducing stress and depression, while increasing experiences of fulfillment and happiness in daily life. I specialize in treating addictions and caretaking fatigue, obsessions/compulsions, anxiety and panic, social conflict resolution, depression, anger management, gender identity and transition, grief and loss, HIV-related issues, and sexual identity and coming out, all with a sensitivity toward diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds. I also specialize in helping couples with non-traditional arrangements to have more loving and joyful relationships. My writing brings these elements together in fresh ways in order to challenge and eliminate harmful "shoulds" in my book, Absolutely Should-less. I started working in the mental health field in 1996 and quickly found that traditional models of psychotherapy failed to meet the complex needs of a diverse society. I realized that culture and politics played significant roles in one's emotional development, and then sought to understand how these factors could be utilized to promote wellness. Inspired by the works of Albert Ellis, Marianne Williamson, Byron Katie, and Margaret Cho, I developed ideas of how challenging assumed "shoulds" could assist in promoting mental and spiritual health. After years of applying these ideas to myself and to my clients, I decided to write Absolutely Should-less to benefit others and eliminate suffering.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Finding the right therapist is no easy task. You want to find someone who is competent, experienced, and also warm, personable, and transparent. I simplify the process by assessing the issue(s), giving options for solutions, and then letting you decide if I'm right for you or not. I utilize an evidence based Cognitive-Behavioral approach to resolving problems. I help people challenge and reduce harmful "shoulds" that interfere with their quality of life and enjoyment in relationships. As a result, most clients who see me experience significant relief of painful symptoms in 5-10 sessions.
