Steve Baum is a native New Orleanian who first sharpened his film abilities at New York University, with a Tisch School of the Arts Master of Fine Arts. Most recently, he has been shooting long-form programs on pressing social issues such as decoding infrastructure disasters (Discovery), privacy and terrorism in the US (ABC Productions), proof of innocence (Innocence Project - Discovery Times), the Pluto Files (Nova Science), and credit card banking abuse, Frontline.
His production firm is credited with assisting numerous newly diagnosed cancer patients via his multi-part documentary series, Cancer: Who are You Now?, which is concerned with the early undecided time after cancer patients discover their diagnosis. Genetic Dilemmas, an NIH funded documentary, website and CME program, and co-produced with the Hastings Center, wrestles with the ethical concerns determined out of the new medical paradigm.
SBPs recent two-part production is Salvadorian Salvation. It is an analysis of the endeavor presently being played out between the organization "Barefoot Angels," an NGO headquartered in Santa Ana, El Salvador, whose mission is to shield kids ages 3 to 18, from ever-increasing MS 13 and the 18th Street gang pressures.
An ongoing focus of SBP has been the creation of the "Not For Kids Only" series. It's a family musical video series, suites dedicated to the production of real world, nurturing programming for adults and children alike. "Underwater Suite" is the initial video in the series, which delights in the motion and beauty of the undersea world. It is a multiple-award winner.
