Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I love helping people who've had some sort of vocal trauma to feel comfortable making new healthy sounds. I've worked with several singers now who've had vocal damage and it can be debilitating. To help someone to find a healthier function to their voice when they've dealth with pain or a loss of ability is one of the most rewarding things I've been able to do in my life.

Where to begin? I came from a musical theater background. I was fortunate to land in a world wide, smash hit mega musical that required me to sing rock and roll. After learning how to do that successfully, when that show closed I had difficulty finding my 'old' voice. Enter Mike Hadary (who's lovely wife I had the pleasure of working with in said musical). He help me refocus attention to the basics within the first lesson, and I was on the road to revelation my lesson 3! His patience, knowledge and skill are far beyond what you would expect for his young age. If you need t 'bring it back to basics' a brush up on some material or just need to move your voice forward, Mike Hadary is your guy!

I love working with Mike! I had been singing for many years, though without much training, and he helped me find an ease in my voice that I hadn't found on my own. He's helped me stretch my range and sing in a more healthy and comfortable way. My tone quality and airflow have improved. And he's a genuinely kind and generous person who made me comfortable from the first lesson. I'm a total nerd, and love that he also gave me some recommended reading. I can't recommend him highly enough. I've recently moved across the country, and will continue working with him via Skype!

Mike is a great listener, and at first thought this might seem counterintuitive to consider in a voice teacher, but it's actually one of the most vital traits. He attentively seeks to hear your voice...your strengths, your areas for improvement, what little tinkering can transform some vocal aspect, and then tailors the instruction to where you're specifically at. He is committed to your individual development as a singer, and that's not a quality you come by everyday.

I'm a Broadway performer, mezzo soprano/mixer/Broadway belter, and I go to Mike for my headvoice technique. Its so important to strengthen the muscles that don't work as much, and that's what we work on...headvoice headvoice headvoice, and how it applies to my mixing and belting to make it as safe as possible! For a NY vocal technique instructor, he is INCREDIBLY reasonably priced, and that is important to me as well. I value Mike immensely and send all of my audition coaching students to him for their vocal technique.

If memory serves we've worked on some "Back to Before" and "Defying Gravity!" Definitely after we warmed up the head voice though! Thanks for the post!

Mike is really anatomically specific to help you trigger previously uncontrolled muscles to work or stop working so that your voice is clear and you can sing for hours without strain. He has so many easy physical tricks that achieve what previous voice teachers busted their backs trying to convey verbally. The lessons are relatively a steal Mike is only charming, never abrasive or dissappointed and I am far from his best student I am sure.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am always trying to better myself as a teacher. I work closely with a teacher from NYU, taking students to him at times to bounce ideas off of him as well as to learn new tools to apply common and uncommon vocal hindrances. I also have a close community of colleagues that I talk with regularly about how we teach and what works best for us in our respective studios. The teacher who feels he/she has nothing left to learn is a teacher who should stop teaching in my opinion.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I'm usually asked to help musical theatre singers to find a healthier technique to sing their audition songs or the songs they may have for a job they've recently acquired. I also have helped many classical singers as well as a plethora of beginners who want to sing as a hobby or at karaoke night. I'm happy to help anyone with a passion for music and singing!
