Song Arts Academy

Introduction: Song Arts Academy is the educational destination for both serious developing songwriters and experienced professional songwriters. Billy Seidman, who teaches all Workshops and Forums, is a respected New York and Nashville based songwriter who runs BMI's Contemporary Songwriters Workshop and is a faculty member of NYU's Prestigious Masters in Songwriting Degree program at NYU Steinhardt. My clients include ASCAP, BMI and SESAC, the major "Performance Rights Organizations" that collect and distribute songwriting royalties and pay professional songwriters and music publishers. I teach those who want to write better songs a new vocabulary for how to listen. To achieve this, I use a unique critiquing system, giving writers definitive insight into what drives a song and what emotion is literally at its heart. By learning this critiquing system and the songcraft/decision making process of the world's greatest songwriters, workshop participants quickly see new directions in which to take their ideas and apply them to their own songs. The Workshop Intensive offers a weekly writing assignment designed to "Grow your Ears" and sensitivity. After four to five weeks, you'll understand organically so much more about how the songs you love are constructed and how to construct your own.
