Introduction: Hello! My name is Michael Mott and I am a musical theatre composer/ lyricist and voice teacher based in midtown Manhattan. I am a graduate of Ithaca College with a BFA Musical Theatre Performance and currently an Advanced Member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writers Workshop. As a voice teacher, my primary focus is on healthy technique, song interpretation and performance. I am proud to offer both virtual and in-person sessions. For a limited time I am offering a 45 minute virtual introductory lesson for only $85 USD. Private sessions are personalized and tailored to the student’s individual needs. The first step is to listen and access where the student is when they first come in. Once we discuss their particular goals, I then develop a personalized warm-up to improve technique, target problem areas and lay the foundation to create a healthy and flexible voice that can achieve longevity in this field. Current and previous students’ Broadway performance credits include “Aladdin,” “Chicago," "Moulin Rouge,” “Newsies," "Hamilton," "Rock of Ages," "Rocktopia," "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" and both the Broadway revival and 2021 film of “West Side Story.” Additional students are currently in Broadway National touring companies, cruise ships and in the recording studio. I am continuously honored watching a student progress over time, build their confidence and see the fruits of our label become second nature onstage and in the recording studio. I've studied with many voice teachers and I can say without any hesitation Michael Mott is one of the best! He's able to listen to someone's voice and know exactly what they need to do both physically and vocally to produce the best sound possible. I love that he incorporates feldenkrais work in every lesson, he emphasizes the importance of using your entire body to sing. He also creates a comfortable environment for the singer, I never feel self-conscious in a lesson because I know the only thing he is focusing on is what I need to do to sound my best. Not only does Michael have a deep understanding of the voice and body but he is also a trained actor who understands that singing isn't just about the voice but about telling a story. Michael is honest and knows how to get a great performance out of anyone. I highly recommend him as a voice teacher!

I have worked with Michael many many times, and I would recommend him in a heartbeat. As a musical director, his focus is on precision, diction, articulation, and technique. No note is spared and every rest is given its full breadth. He is especially skilled at working with people who have trouble with music, working with them and offering unique ways to approach a piece and not quitting until they've reached their top potential. As a voice teacher, he has helped me on numerous occasions with his extensive knowledge of Feldenkrais. His breathing and slow relaxation techniques have saved me from a couple dark patches. I have also watched and listened in on lessons as he teaches, and there is almost always a consistent stream of laughter accompanying the music. He has a way of putting his students at ease. A friend who took a class from him says she was unable to open up to any of her professional voice teachers, feeling intimated and embarrassed, until she met Michael. I have known Michael for a little over a year now, and I never cease to be amazed by his talent as a vocalist and teacher. I worked with Michael in Curious George Live! where he acted as our vocal captain (essentially our musical director) on tour. He lead our warm ups and cleaned songs. He worked with us on harmonies and blending. He has a keen ability to sense what needs to change in order to make a song sound better and convey it's message. Michael has worked with all levels of talent and is a capable teacher for beginners as well as seasoned professionals. He is very funny and fun to work with. He keeps the environment light while remaining ever-professional. I highly recommend working with Michael, whether it be for ongoing voice lessons or audition preparation. You won't be disappointed.
