FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I think prices can be negotiated, so it is not cut-and-dry in that sense. However, proofreading is cheaper than editing and length of work plays a factor. I try not to do hourly, b/c as a consumer you cannot track my hours. I'll give a base price and stick to it.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I try to learn new style guides as needed to keep up with different style trends and update my own knowledge. Associated Press is standard, but I learned New York Times a few years ago and recently added American Medical Association style to my tool belt.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always been a writer and there are transferable skills you acquire along the way; but as a news editor I had the opportunity to work with younger writers and helped give them guidance. I got a taste for helping writers grow their work and I enjoy it.
