Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Our fencing club is like a family. In our ten years here in Plainview, we have coached thousands of fencers. Among our students are members of the U.S. National Team, National Champions and medalists.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. The biggest thing to know is that there are three weapons; the foil, epee and sabre. Each weapon has a different scoring zone, and acceptable striking ability (foil and epee points can only be scored with the tip of the blade, whereas you're allowed to slash using the sabre).

Make sure to ask for further details when you speak with a club about beginning fencing.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. In any sport, coaching is very important. If you or your child are in the right hands your chances for success greatly improve. So, if you're interested in enrolling your child into a fencing program, be sure to ask about a coach's background.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Is fencing an activity to occupy one hour a week, or is this a sport that your child can possibly become competitive in? This is a very important question parents and kids should figure out relatively early in their development as fencers.

The sooner you determine this, the sooner you can begin competing at a local level and gaining tournament experience.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Do you have a program for someone who's interested in fencing, but has never done so?

We have an Introductory Package which we have designed as a "sample platter" of everything we have to offer. The package is $130, and you would receive 2 private lessons and two group classes. IFA provides fencers with all necessary equipment during the Intro period. By the end of the introductory period, fencers have a sense of what working one on one with a coach is like, how classes are run, a sense of the atmosphere at the club, and a better overall sense if fencing is something they would want to pursue.
