Bassist/teacher Seth Horan has relocated to Upstate New York, and is now accepting students. Lessons are being taught in these cities: Syracuse, Rochester, Watertown, Utica, Ithaca, and Binghamton.

I am accepting all levels, and all styles of music. Both bass guitar and double bass (upright bass) students are welcome.

Weekly lessons are $40 per hour, and twice-a-month lessons are $45 per hour.

  I have been playing bass in fits and starts for much of my life. I mostly learned by ear when I started and have tried lessons with a half dozen different teachers with varying but rather limited success. I have also, of course, been a student of various other subjects over the course of my lifetime, including martial arts, and I think I have a pretty good notion of what constitutes good teaching and a good teacher. Seth Horan has every quality necessary for an excellent teacher. :
  *Passion for the subject (& instrument), being taught.
  *The ability to gauge the current level of ability of the student.
  *An interest in each student's specific individual goals and needs.
  *The commitment and ability to tailor the lessons to the individual's current ability and to progress them toward their goals.
  *A motivating but non-intimidating homework load that delivers noticeable progress and keeps you coming back for more!
  
  I can tell you with conviction that no other bass teacher I've ever had made the lessons and homework more clear or more tailored to my goals than Seth does. I can also tell you absolutely that no other bass teacher has delivered the results and the feeling of competence and excitement about being a bass player that Mr. Horan has to me.

  I first began studying bass with Seth in July, 2011, and was immediately impressed with his knowledge of all styles of bass playing. I had previously only worked with guitarists who taught bass on the side, and I noticed the difference immediately; In my short time studying with Seth, I've made progress not only in technique, but also in timekeeping, theory, and singing. Seth has let me take my learning in the direction I want to, and he's been an invaluable resource along the way.

  I've been studying with Seth for about two months now. He is careful and patient in explaining bass to a total beginner. He accurately measures what his student is ready for, and what the student will be ready for next. Lessons are conveniently scheduled, and we make extremely good use of the time. I'm very pleased with the progress I'm making, and I expect to continue taking lessons for quite a while.
  
  I'd recommend Seth to anyone looking to start playing bass (like me). I'd also recommend Seth to advanced players--he is very skilled as a bass player and teacher. Look at the videos and get an idea of where he is as a player. Look at the testimonials to get an idea of where he is as a teacher.

  You will not find a better music teacher than Seth Horan. As a performer, Seth rips it up in any genre, including his unique singer/songwriter/bassist act. Stick around for more than a few minutes, and you recognize his mastery of the instrument as well as the ability to dive to the depths of music theory. Best of all, Seth has great communication skills and can teach music to anybody. Look at me: after just a few lessons and five hours of practice, I was headlining at Caesars Tahoe!

  I was 30 and hadn’t played an instrument in my life when I started taking bass lessons from Seth. Thanks to his skill as a teacher, love of bass, and encyclopedic knowledge of music, I learned more, faster than I ever would have thought possible. Whatever genre or style of music you are playing or want to play, don’t waste your time with anybody else. Call Seth now. He will make you a better bass player.   Seth is a great player and a great teacher. His teaching style is not dependent on books or rote learning, but rather, on sharing and communicating his technical knowledge and love of music. In teaching you to play, Seth teaches you to listen. His lessons were rigorous, but low pressure. Simply said, if you are looking for a gifted bassist who is adept at teaching in a user friendly way, look no farther. We miss Seth - but our loss in Central New York's gain.

  Seth is an awesome bass teacher. You would be hard pressed to find an instructor as well versed in different styles of playing and technique. Seth worked with me on bass playing, music theory, and even singing. He is very flexible, and will cater your lessons to what you want to accomplish. I don't think you could find a better teacher, or a more talented player.

  Seth is a gifted teacher. I went from total novice to gigging musician under his tutelage. As a teacher myself, I came to appreciate Seth's ability to quickly understand my needs as a learner and adapt his instruction to meet them.   Seth Horan is a great bass instructor. When I started taking lessons from Seth I had been teaching myself bass mainly through YouTube videos and listening to my guitar playing friend’s tips.
  What I found was that soon after starting instruction with Seth my skills steadily improved. Seth always took the time to answer my questions thoroughly. He created my lessons specifically tailored to what I asked to learn and made them enjoyable. Seth is truly a professional.
  Today, thanks to Seth’s instruction, I consider myself a budding musician with a much better understanding of both my instrument as well as music in general. I would highly recommend Seth to anyone searching to learn more about bass.
