Introduction: A former Fulbright student to Munich, 25 years experience teaching German at college and university, a Masters Degree in German Literature and Art, translator (including two published books from German into English) plus a well-traveled German enthusiast--these suggest my particular qualifications as your new teacher of German. Instruction is online using Facetime or Skype at the rate of $20 per half hour lesson $28 per 45 minute lesson, or for those of you preferring an hour lesson, $35 per 60 minutes, with credit card payments securely processed through PayPal, in addition to other convenient payment methods. (There is a reduction for multiple lessons within the week. For example, two half-hour lessons within a week total $35, two one-hour-long lessons are $60, and two 45-minute lessons are $50.) In addition to using (free!) material produced by the Goethe-Institute, I like to include in my online instruction one of three books, depending on your level. If you are new to the German language, or perhaps have already studied a year or so but would like some reinforcement of basic grammar and vocabulary, we'll use a book readily available online for approximately $16.00 intended for beginner through intermediate levels along with short readings and helpful dialogues. If you are already at an early intermediate or intermediate level, short stories serve as a basis for discussion to help you move on to more advanced vocabulary and constructions. Whether you want to improve your German speaking and listening fluency, your German reading capability, or your "German for Travelers" vocabulary for an approaching trip, one-on-one German instruction is a value you won't beat, and your language proficiency will improve quickly. I enjoy seeing my students' ability to express themselves in German rapidly increase. Their enthusiasm for developing a new language plus a growing familiarity with a new culture results in exciting prospects that go hand in hand with that new adventure.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Credit card payments are securely made using Paypal. One 45 minute-lesson is $25, or a 60 minute lesson ls $35.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For students who have had any German at all previously, I request a very brief email, even just a few sentences, written about themselves in German in order to get an idea where we should begin at our first lesson or perhaps what we need to review. For beginning students, during the initial lesson we will learn to pronounce and understand basic and useful phrases in German, plus begin to work with a dialog that they will have received by email. For intermediate students, we will warm up with some conversational German and then turn our attention to the initial pages in their book, which they will have been asked to read as a first assignment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I did my doctoral research in Medieval Germanic Languages and Art on a Fulbright Scholarship in Munich. I have also translated two published books from German into English. I have taught German at the University of Illinois as well as privately and at community colleges. I travel to Germany most every year.
