Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Customers looking to hire a Pilates, yoga, or fitness instructor should look for years of experience and education, and for someone that can inspire you to become more fit and healthy. An instructor should not only be able to teach you exercises that are appropriate for you, they should be a role model for the kind of healthy lifestyle you want to lead.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Pilates is a technique that takes years to learn to teach properly. Find out if the instructor has a comprehensive certification, meaning over 300 hrs of training on all the apparatus, or just a matwork course. That being said, Pilates alone, is not sufficient training to help people with varied fitness and health needs. Look for additional background in exercise science, nutrition, sports, etc. so they are more likely to be able to create a program meets all your goals.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. A consumer should ask where the instructor has worked and if they have references. They should also ask if they are insured. Asking about schedule availability is also important.
