Breath of fresh air Jeff Malloy is. I was very nervous to use him because I just found him on the net and called him based on reviews, he wasn't recommended by a friend who had experience with him. From the moment I called, I got good vibes. He was personable and sounded like he knew what he was talking about. We are first time buyers and this is the second home we've had inspected. We had used Heimer [Engineering] prior and while we didn't hate them, we didn't feel like they were thorough and I didn't want to use them again. Mr.Malloy walked us through everything and explained what he was doing. He took pictures and provided us with our report within 24hrs. The report was clear and concise, no technical terms that we can't understand like what Heimer did in their almost 100 page report. A wonderful man who knows what he is doing, engages his customers, takes his time to explain everything. Highly recommended.

Choosing the right home inspector can be difficult. Unlike most professionals, you probably will not get to meet me until after you hire me. Furthermore, different inspectors have varying qualifications, equipment, experience, reporting methods, and yes, different pricing. One thing for sure is that a good home inspection requires work, a lot of work. Ultimately a thorough inspection depends heavily on the individual inspector’s own effort. If you honor me by permitting me to inspect your new home, I guarantee that I will give you my very best effort. This I promise you.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Single family homes of 1,500 to 1,800 sqft.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Always search the web for client reviews and comments. Check by company name and by the name of the individual inspector.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. MOST problems are easy to identify and repair or control. Unfortunately it is usually harder to find the problem then to fix it!

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Detail about their complaint or problem. History of an issue is usually key to diagnosing causes.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Quite simply...customer satisfaction. We spend TIME with our clients, answer all of their questions and are not happy until THEY are happy.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Meeting young couples buying their first homes. We help take the emotion out of the process and make it less scary.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. What does it cost?....For a good inspection or for a bad one? They should concentrate on value because a bad inspection can cost thousands!!!

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I had a client who wanted to know if i was going to fill a swimming pool and test it....LOL, I had another who wanted me to look on google earth at satellite photos to estimate how much of roof had to be replaced.....oh yhea that was the same client.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. How long it takes to achieve some of our professional designations. We work hard to be the best of the best, and I think it shows in our actual work product.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I have always enjoyed architectural design and history. Building has always been a hobby and after working with Habitat for Humanity for 7 years as a sit construction manager it was a natural progression.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. All of our licenses or certifications require various continuing education credits.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. The use of infrared thermal imaging cameras have made the inspectors job "easier" by helping us find problems that are invisible to the naked eye!

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Pricing is generally based on the size of the home. Age and complexity also contribute a bit.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Be diligent and always look for the details...the Devil is in the details.
