Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Moving clients personal belongings and furniture from one home to another. This is typically household moves.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Movers in the state of Ohio are required to be licensed by the Public Utility Commission of Ohio. This is for your protection. Many cheap movers cannot do this because they don't have the necessary insurance, licensing and background checks. Ask for a license number and then go to www.puco.ohio.gov/puco to verify it.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. The most important part of any move is having enough moving pads to protect your things. Real moving pads and not household blankets make the difference.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Do you have hidden charges like travel fees, fuel charges, stair or long carry charges?

Do you charge extra for things like flat screen TVs, stairs, long carries or extra stops?

Do you have any sub-contractors or only us real employees?

Can you provide proof of your workers compensation certificate?

What is your US Department of Transportation number?

What is your state moving license number?

Do you have any additional fees?

For long distance moves do you offer a free in-home estimate so there are no surprises with the price?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Clients should consider their budget before planning any move. We offer very inexpensive services to help them do a few things up to more costly services in which we would do everything. We have a lot of great options but the customer should know what they can afford before they call.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Many cheap day labor services put together a website and call themselves movers.

We are a locally owned and operated moving company. We also have real employees and are licensed by the state of Ohio.

Why is that important?

First of all, if one of those cheap movers gets hurt on your property, they can sue you for damages because they don't have workers' compensation insurance.

If your belongings are damaged, their insurance is not full coverage because a day labor service can only get liability.

A lot of companies will make up a lot of things to earn your business. Ask yourself, if they were real movers, why aren't they licensed like the law requires?

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. That real movers are required to be licensed and insured by their state. 85% of moving scams are done by cheap movers that do not have a license.

In the state of Ohio this license is called a "Household Goods Carrier License" and is issued by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. Before a mover can get a license they have to pass background checks, provide proof of insurance, show their workers compensation certificate and more.

This may not sound important but before you hire cheap movers, ask yourself why they aren't obeying the law and getting licensed?
