FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began taking photos of my family as a child. My mom could never find her camera because I was always toting it around! I have always been artistic and have always been encouraged to follow that instinct. So when it came time to declare a major I made a little "X" in the photography checkbox and never looked back!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I most often photograph weddings, do maternity sessions, portrait sessions and engagement sessions. These sessions are done outdoors as I do not have a studio space in which to photograph. But nature is much more beautiful anyways! Even a rainy day photo shoot can be absolutely gorgeous!
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I feel that photographers are often under-appreciated because many people don't consider: 1. A Day's Work: Photographing an event means being on your feet for an average of 12-15 hours on the day of the event. Photographers often arrive to weddings before the Bride and bridesmaids are even dressed and stay till after the bouquet and garter have been tossed. There is a very small amount of downtime during all of the commotion of a wedding day between taking photos of the girls getting ready, the procession down the aisle, the first kiss, the bridal party portraits after the ceremony, the guests awaiting the grand entrance to the reception, the arrival, the welcome speech, the toast, the dances, the cake cutting, the tosses! Its exhausting and stressful, but we photographers love our jobs and want you to know that we work very hard to capture your most special moments and preserve them for you! 2. The High Cost of Equipment Photography equipment is extremely expensive; from cameras, to lenses, to PhotoShop, to computers, photography is an expensive trade! Part of paying for your photographer is paying to ensure that they will have enough money left over after living expenses to have an emergency fund for new equipment and continue capturing beautiful moments for a long time! 3. Endless Editing! Editing can be soooo much fun! Its when us photographers get to be creative and make your beautiful photos even more beautiful! However, I usually take THOUSANDS of photos at each wedding and it takes a long, long time to sort through those photos and delete the not so great ones and edit all of the AMAZING ones! Please appreciate this step; We love it, but it also makes us a little bonkers! 4. The Dedication: Hiring a photographer is like hiring a new BFF, we are going to be there for you on your wedding day, fix your hair before you go down the aisle, fluff your dress when needed, hand you a tissue at the first sight of tears. As a photographer I genuinely care about you and your happiness and want you to be happy, taken care of and focused on how much you love your bride/groom, not whether or not your mascara is running!
