Steve Renko Drum Studios

I am Cleveland-based, award-winning drummer and percussionist. My first professional engagement occurred at the age of 9. In 2002 I was named runner-up in the Guitar Center National Drum-Off. From the mid 2000's on, I became a widely sought sideman with Jazz, Blues, Rock and Funk outfits in my hometown of Cleveland. As a working musician, I regularly played 150+ engagements a year with bands in the Northeast Ohio Region. In 2016, I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the New School for Jazz in New York City, and I have studied with world renowned musicians like Bobby Sanabria, Matt Wilson, Jamey Haddad and The Clayton Brothers. I have also carved out a professional career performing and recording with acclaimed songwriters and producers in New York City and Cleveland, Ohio. I have also spent a considerable amount of time touring with bands based in Cleveland, New York City and Detroit. As an educator, I have taught private and group lessons for Jazz at Lincoln Center's Middle School and High School Jazz Academies in New York City, and Stebal Drums and Progressive Arts Alliance in Ohio. "Good sound and good time" is my musical credo, and I believe these can be achieved by developing strong fundamental musical techniques, critical and active listening skills and the ability to read music. This, coupled with exploring your own creativity and individual personality, along with exploring the historical and cultural contexts of the particular styles addressed, I want to not only develop your abilities as a drummer/musician, but also to become a more thoughtful and empathetic person. I specialize in teaching approaches to Rock and Jazz, Funk and Afro-Cuban drumming and hand percussion.
