Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Weddings, Senior Pictures, children shoots. I also shoot sports at OSU and Otterbein. Shooting sports is important because of the experience of not missing any pj moments during very fast action events.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Don't look for cheapest price. Look for experience. Look for a business. Look for a professional with lots of experience. Look at their website. Look for galleries showing complete weddings, not single shots. Meet with them. These are your treasures. Contact me and we'll meet ...coffee and bagels on me. If we're a match, I'll work hard to do my best.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Low light and fast action shooting is my specialty without flash. This can be seen in my Buckeye basketball photos at my website. When crunch time comes-- the ceremony - customers need the experience of a low light action shooter. Many ceremonies do not allow flash, and I have the experience and gear to best ensure success.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. How many hours during the wedding day? Do you want an engagement or bridal shoot. Do you want a big screen slide show? Do you want a pro designer wedding album? Do you want an option to have all the photos delivered to your computer via ftp and the internet? Do you want parents albums? Do you want a guest album filled with engagement photos for family and friends to notate and sign? Do you want enlargements? Do you want a studio -booth set-up at the wedding? Do you want studio lighting and backdrops set-up at the wedding? About how many prints and sizes will you want (ie, order of magnitude estimate).

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. More than ten years experience photographing events.

Artistic eye to get the shots. Great digital slr and lens gear in duplicate

Advanced Photoshop experience

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Capturing the precious treasured moments. Making pictures that bring happiness to folks. Capturing smiles and laughter.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. What price do you charge? My answer is I create a great value for the time and experience I bring to the shoot. At least two times as much time is spent in the digital darkroom as on the shoot itself. The body of work becomes a true treasure. Every customer has told me they have been pleased.

The customer receives the benefit of my decade of experience and $15K in gear. Please inquire about cost savings event packages available!

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. Yes, I was able to take one of my couple's into the horseshoe alone during their wedding day. They dotted the i, gestured the O, H, and even ran for a touchdown! Wedding Party photos were taken just outside the stadium with my ulta wide angle amidst the architecture of the dome atrium. -- see my wedding gallery #2 at my website

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. Unless a photographer has the experience with software such as Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite, and photomechanic, they will not do a best in class job with your wedding. I have a decade of advanced experience with these processing tools. Also, ask the question about duplicate equipment. I have duplicate equipment which reduces the chance of missing treasured shots.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. My mom is an artist. I approach photography as a craft but occasionally there are artistic outcomes. I started by creating reprints for my mom's art.

I was drawn to image technology more than 2 decades ago when I worked with early Apples and software. Today, I work with the latest photoshop creative suite and Lightroom software as an advanced software application user. I was a beta tester for Adobe Software Systems in the development of their Lightroom product once they bought RawShooter premium.

Anyone can point a camera, but do they have the eye and can they create art? I hope to have the opportunity to make photos for you that represent the art of your wedding or event.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I did two portrait sessions this past year of a wonderful little 2 year old who wasn't exactly cooperative. One has to work fast and be able to shoot without flash to avoid the flash recycle timne. That is my specialty. You can see the two portrait session results at my website

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I have been a reader and learner of the latest developments in photography for the last decade. I look at others bodies of work involving huge numbers of images. Then I deploy my likes and style that has strengths of capturing the pj moments and creating some great posing moments and using creative development techniques that reflect my views and style..

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Video is becoming more prevalent since dslr's can now do video. Also, Digital Photo Frames will get bigger and bigger with good quality and prices coming down.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. we've photographed Buckeye Basketball many times. For a two hour event, two cameras and shoot about 1200 photos. From those 1200 photos, about 25 get selected for web posting. All this needs accomplished within a few hours after the game. Photomechanic is used for selection, and photoshop is used for development. All this must be done very fast. That is the specialty of those we bring to the shoot -- pj shooting.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. My pricing is described in detail in my above summary. In addition to the value of my service, consider the experience of the professional photographers that will photograph your special day.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Experience and body of work are keys. Suggest shooting with a pro as a second shooter. Also do not underestimate insurance costs, and having duplicate gear. Most of all it is the photographer, the light, the lenses, the processing and then the modern body.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Have you ever had a camera break during a shoot?

Yes I have. I lost a shutter on one of my cameras during a shoot. But since I carry three dslr's, I didn't miss a beat. I kept shooting with the other two cameras and the results were great. Always check on the photogs duplicate gear before making a hiring decision.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Can you give some examples of your success?

Yes, I've done 5 big screen slide shows set to music and projected from my projector to my 100" screen -- all to standing ovations -- him growing up, her growing up, pair pictures, couple pictures.

I created leather zookbook albums that are just awesome - see my website

And I am one of the few that deploys a remote camera in front of the couple during the wedding -- in other words, I wire the baskets...

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. What extras do you provide?

Couples need to realize that I go to great lengths to develop their wedding so they have a true treasure. This will take me more that 20 hours for each wedding. All of my wedding couples have been happy with the treasure I made for them. Let's get together at a coffee shop and discuss your needs. I will always do my best.

Testimonials

  • May 6, 2011

We were very pleased and impressed with the pictures that Bob took at our wedding. He was on time, courteous, and professional. Both the posed and the candid shots came out wonderfully. He gave me exactly the pics I wanted and they turned out better than I could have expected.
