Mic Garnett provided a quote of $8,000.00 on 5/23/14 for tile install and materials. We paid in full with cleared check (we have a copy) 8,000.00 same day--because we wanted the job completed soon, he came back and said he made a mistake and gave a new invoice for $8,649 because he forgot to add tax and shipping. We agreed to pay upon completion the $649 balance. Months passed and we were dissatisfied with the amount of time the project was taking. However, the work was good. Mic would work 1-2 hours per day about 3 days a week at the most. We also needed additional work at our home,so we called various people for quotes. When another contractor showed up to provide a quote, Mic was present and stated that he could do the work we needed. He stated that the only reason he took so long was because he was in high demand with local churches and commercial businesses but would guarantee our job to be completed within 2 weeks. Since he only needed about a day's work (2 hours) to complete our floors and the work was good (it just took too long)--and he gave us a reasonable explanation and promised to complete the floors and the new project within 2 weeks since he was all caught up on all other projects...we gave him another try. He quoted $3,400 for 12 doors, including replacing the door jams, trim and painting the doors, using existing hardware. 3,500 for painting the entire first floor, replace trim, patchwork where needed, front porch painting and staining front and back entry doors. We paid the $649 balance on the floors and down payment on the work, totaling $4,000.00 on 8/1/14, check has cleared. Mic began on the new project before completing the floor, but did not complete any part of it. For example, he started on three doors, all need to be painted, trim is not complete on 2 of the doors. Patchwork has begun in some areas, but not all, trim has begun in some areas, but has not been completed etc..--in fact, not one part of the project is complete. 3 weeks passed since he promised to complete the work in 2 weeks. I travel often for work and did not want him to begin on any doors which were to be place upstairs (8), so I asked him to remove 8 doors from the quote and complete downstairs and we would pay for the balance once it was complete. (note we paid 12,000.00 total, that had cleared at this point 8k May 23 +4K Aug 1). Mic became irate and stated he would do no more work and would charge even more if we deducted the doors that he had not started. He wants an additional $3,799 without completing the doors. He stated that if he gave us a discount for the large project. However, the prices he gave are above market price. We believe it is reasonable for him to complete the project without the doors he has not started and deduct them from the invoice, which he refuses to do or to refund any of the amounts that we have paid for incomplete work.

Tile installation for one room took over four months to install, increased price frequently, promised to completed by certain time frame , but would not follow through and not show up to work on tile. Prepaid, that was a mistake . If you hire this company pay half and the remainder upon completion. Job was never fully completed because installer stated that he needed to charge more than what he quoted originally and needed more money ( tile was paid and provided by us)

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Get someone with real "on the job" experience. Not just a sales person, or an installer that doesn't have the practical experience that makes your investment the best it can be for your application.
