Peter DeMott took my daughter's Senior pictures a year ago she was thrilled with how they turned out. She does not like to get her picture taken because she feels uncomfortable and just really doesn't want to bother with it. Peter has a work enviroment that is fun and professional. He helped her relax and that enabled him to capture her real emotion and not something that is fake. I absolutely LOVE her Senior pictures and am excited for my next Senior in Fall of 2011!

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. It is critical that you not just look for a good price. Price when spread over 10-20 years means nothing. You could be making a choice based on pennies per month. Choose your photographer based on the work they do and the services they provide rather than price alone. Look at their galleries and make sure you like their style before you make your purchase. Your photography session should be enjoyable, relaxed and provide you with images you can enjoy for many years.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. This is a story about a wedding photographer. I don't do weddings, but recommend several friends who do them. One friend had someone bring them a CD and ask if they would "do what you do" to the images to make them look so good. The bride had hired a photographer off Craig's list who did the entire wedding day for $495, but she loved the work of my friend. My friend asked the young lady, after looking on the CD, where are the high resolution images? It turned out that the Craig's list photographer had provided only thumbnail sized images of the entire day (each image was 27k file size, but there were thousands of them). They could only be printed about the size of a postage stamp and were only good for viewing at a fairly small size on computer screen. They could not even make a 5x7 from the files. The bride was devastated to say the least. My friend's base price is $4,000.00 including two photographers. Divide that over 40+ years and the price difference becomes insignificant. She could have enjoyed her wedding pictures for 40+ years, but instead she will be sad about them for 40+ years. There can be a cost to choosing price alone when selecting your photographer.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I am a member of Professional Photographers of SW Ohio and Professional Photographers of Ohio. We have monthly meetings which include continuing education. I see portrait photography as and art and a business. You have to be growing in both areas to stay on your game so to speak. Photography to me is a lifelong learning experience. That is what keeps me challenged and always working to become the best I can be at what I do.
