FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My CPDT-KA designation requires 12 hours of continuing education to be completed each year, through the form of animal training seminars and workshops. In addition, my membership in the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) keeps me up-to-date on the newest animal behavior developments.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When looking to hire a dog trainer, make sure you thoroughly research their credentials and methods. Anyone can call themselves a "dog trainer", but many lack the knowledge, practical skill, and experience to solve the most common canine behavior problems. I recommend searching for trainers who belong to one of the national or international trade organizations (APDT and IAPDT being the most common) at the very least. Even better, look for a trainer with a CPDT-KA or CPDT-KSA designation, as this title is earned by trainers after demonstrating hands-on skills and knowledge through a rigorous vetting process.
