Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. Weddings are the majority of our work. Small to large, no limit. We do specialize in working with couples on a limited budget. We are flexible on pricing and packages
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Talk to a few photographers, see who yo are comfortable with. Then ask questions,
What camera do you use. Is it a Pro or consumer model.
Do you have backup equipment in case of an emergency?
What lenses do you have? Are they the kit lens or faster. You want lenses that are at least 2,8 or faster.
How much memory do you carry?
Do you have a photographer(s) you can call in an emergency? (car trouble, sick)
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. Overall I feel we offer more. All day coverage, no extra charge. Printed proofs, which most do not offer. All files corrected/touched up when mose do 10-25 or so and charge for more. And the big difference, 2 photographers and NO extra chage!
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Every wedding is different! People are different! I LOVE meeting new people and making friends.
We;ve gotten a few referrals fomr provious clients which is the best advertising.
We've also had clients hire us for other shoots, family portraits, babies, senior pictures and the like,.
We have become friends with a few clients and boon out with them casually,,,,
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. That we do not just take pictures. There is a lot more to it than that. We have studied, aprenticed, and invested in ourselves. I carry at least 8K in equipment whtn I go to a job.
Once a shoot is over, I spend a lot of time on the computer manually going over each and every file. An 8 hours wedding day may generate 600+ images. Each file is tweaked for the best color and contrast I can get. 40hours is not uncommon.
Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
A. Take a class on your camera. Nikon has these and I'm sure Canon does also.
A class on lighting is good also, especially on camera flash(you'll need that knowledge)
Read, read, read, Photo magazines, books on portrait photography and general photography,
Work with another photography, even if just carrying exuipment and pay attention.
Ask friends to play bride and groom and shoot shoot Shoot... Then study and critique your own work and ask others what they think.
Work as a 2nd shooter with a pro, Do not go out and shoot blind. You will not like the results and get frustrated.
If you have to shoot a few weddings for free, or for cost of prints, do it. Make sure the customer knows you are new.
And the big one....DO NOT shoot without a contract. This is manditory.
BTW.........Do not shoot without backup equipment......Things do happen!
